Dear Friends and Neighbours!
A Happy New Year to one and all!
Before the new year gets into its full stride, here are pictures of the last block party of 2009, brought to you by Seng Poh Residents Committee, to celebrate Christmas, and also, the successful completion of the repainting exercise.
Heres our RC members and their 'assistants' hard at work setting up the food.
Many thanks to all who could make it - it was not just the makan, but the company too that made the afternoon an enjoyable one, where neighbours could get to know each other better.
Here's Joseph and his flock (above)
We also had an interesting session viewing pictures taken by the Photo Interest Group for Tiong Bahru Estate and our nearby sights. Check out more on Tiongbahru.org.
There was also a special feature on CATS! Yes, Cats of Tiong Bahru... so, if you are interested in pictures of CATS - be it viewing or taking or sharing, drop us a line...
Last but not least, there was Karaoke - we have some really good singers in the neighbourhood!
Look out for the next Block Party at the RC and have a great year ahead!
:)

The money spent on the recent paint job doesn't seem like money well spent. It made the whole neighbourhood looking like the very hostel I used to lived in when I was in University, and with the pipes painted yellow, some of my friends who haven't been to Tiong Bahru thought they were flatted factories. Thank god they didn't go up any stairwell and check out the new green hand rails installed. Industrial look for a used-to-be cosy and comfortable estate.
ReplyDeleteThe wheel chair ramps seem to be too much at some places? Some are directionally direct, others are like obstacles.
I would rather that the warm yellow lights were not replaced by the glaring white "spotlights". So let me guess, the reason for the lighting replacements is crime-prevention? The yellow lights were not bright enough to deter crimes in the past so much so that such "preventive measures" must be taken at the expense of our living comfort? So crimes that may happen in Tiong Bahru in the future can be deterred by rows and rows of white lights reflecting off the walls and windows of opposite and adjacent blocks? What about the robbery that took place early in the morning a month ago? I didn't see the white lights contributing, if that's their purpose.
How about sheltered walkways linking adjacent blocks, providing shelter during rainy days just for the 5 metres gap between them. That has been apparent for so many years, can't believe why nobody bothered to think about that.
Hi Jooster, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletewell, for the paint, we did our best to be historically accurate, and also by the voting that we got as many residents as possible to take part in.
For the ramps in the post war blocks, you would be pleased to know that most of them were installed quite quickly, by the TC to meet the specific needs of the residents.
So, if there is a particular block that the ramps are less than direct, and you think that it can be improved, do call the TC who will do their best.
As for the lights, well, agree, its so so so bright, not very cosy at all. But perhaps when the next round of changing bulbs occur, we can ask the TC to choose better lights.
